Stockholm 1912
The capital of Sweden welcomed 2,547 athletes (57 women) from 28 nations (May 5-July 22). For the first time electrical timing equipment, information boards, and photo finish were all used in Stockholm. Stockholm was the beginning of a new ceremony - the closing of the games became as spectacular as the opening.
The hosts took most of the medals - 65 (with 24 gold). The Finn athlete Hannes Kolehmainen won three gold medals in the long distance events.
