St. Louis 1904
Because of the long travel across the ocean and high costs many countries did not send delegations to the Games in America. 13 nations with 689 athletes competed from July 1 till October 29 in 12 sports. Only Americans participated in 5 of the sports. The only 8 women signed for archery events. Baron de Coubertin made a strong protest against the attempt of the hosts to segregate the Games for "whites" and "colored".
The Americans won 76% of the medals - 238 (80 golds).
