London 1908
London became the host (July 13-October 29) after Rome canceled. Enormous construction took part in very short time - a stadium for 70,000, a 100-meter swimming pool, running tracks. This marked the beginning of an ambition for the future game hosts to have new sport complexes for the games.
2,035 athletes (36 women) from 22 nations participated. Britain won most medals - 145 (56 gold).
